Pakistan and Turkey Agree to Rapid Military Deployment in Saudi Arabia

An emergency meeting in Riyadh moved the three countries' defence pact toward implementation. The announcement specifies deployment inside Saudi Arabia, with troop numbers and combat roles undisclosed.

Pakistan and Turkey agreed on October 5, 2026, to rapidly deploy military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia under their joint defence agreement with Riyadh, as Houthi attacks and renewed fighting in Yemen put the alliance's commitments into practice.

The decision followed an emergency meeting in Riyadh of the Makkah Alliance for Defense's Strategic Political and Defense Committee. A joint statement published by Pakistan's Foreign Ministry set out the commitment to move immediately toward implementation.

What the deployment decision covers

The statement calls for the agreed forces and military capabilities to be made available and rapidly deployed in the kingdom. Implementation is to follow approved arrangements and the national laws of the participating countries.

It does not give troop numbers, name the units or equipment involved, or set out specific combat assignments. Nor does the announcement establish that the newly pledged forces have already arrived.

Saudi Arabia is the stated destination

The geographical limit of the announcement matters: it identifies Saudi Arabia as the deployment destination. It does not announce Pakistani or Turkish troops entering Yemen or taking part in a ground offensive there.

Reuters separately reported an advance by Saudi backed Yemeni government forces around the Bab el Mandeb Strait on October 5. Those battlefield reports describe a different operation and do not establish a Pakistani or Turkish combat role in Yemen.

Attacks bring the defence pact into focus

In the joint statement, the three governments condemned what they described as attempts to target Mecca and Medina, alongside attacks on Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities. These descriptions are the governments' account of the threats.

The statement did not name the Houthis. Reporting by AFP carried by Turkish Minute placed the deployment pledge in the context of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and the renewed Yemeni government offensive.

The public commitment is therefore clear on destination and urgency. Its military scale, precise missions and arrival timetable remain unspecified.
