The attack took place on the morning of October 23 on Route 35. Medical updates described two casualties in critical condition. Three others reached hospitals in Jerusalem: two conscious men in moderate condition at Shaare Zedek, and a man with a gunshot wound in good condition at Hadassah Ein Kerem.
Channel 14 published footage recording the attack itself. The video below shows the incident as it happened, before the subsequent military operation in the surrounding area.
Gunfire Complicates the Rescue
Reaching the injured was difficult while shooting continued. Recordings from the scene captured a responder directing soldiers into a bullet resistant ambulance for shelter, while another described gunfire obstructing the evacuation. Magen David Adom said its teams treated the two critically wounded casualties at the scene.
The IDF identified the attackers’ weapons as an M16 rifle and a pistol. The gunmen were pursued and eliminated nearby. In the account presented at a later military assessment, a company commander and the Ari Battalion’s deputy commander eliminated the gunmen. The battalion belongs to Home Front Command.
Vehicle Search Points to a Wider Threat
The discovery of substantial ammunition in the attackers’ vehicle became a central detail in that assessment. Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir viewed it as an indication that they had prepared for a more extensive attack.
Zamir credited the soldiers’ intervention with preventing additional harm to civilians and security forces. He also ordered stronger intelligence efforts and more arrest operations, with preparations to reinforce Central Command if operational needs required it.
Searches Extend Into Hebron
The IDF spokesperson subsequently described troops encircling Hebron and other villages, entering the terrorists’ houses and carrying out counterterrorism activity across the area. The statement marked the expansion of the response from the immediate attack site to surrounding communities.
An IDF video released after the attack documents forces operating in the Hebron area. It accompanies the military’s announcement of the counterterrorism activity.
By that stage, the two attackers had been eliminated, while searches and access restrictions remained part of the continuing security response.
